Volantis raises $88 million to build photonic AI inference systems

Volantis announced an $88 million Series A co-led by Lachy Groom and Abstract Ventures. The semiconductor startup is developing A-1, a photonic interconnect architecture intended to increase both memory capacity and bandwidth for very large AI models. Its founding team includes veterans of NVIDIA, AMD, Broadcom and Ayar Labs.
