Dropbox cuts about 9% of its workforce and redirects resources to product and growth priorities
Dropbox disclosed on October 28 that it is reducing its global workforce by approximately 9% to align its investments and team structure with what it described as its most important product and growth priorities. The company did not provide an exact headcount in its regulatory filing, but reporting and the company communication place the reduction at roughly 200 roles across Engineering, Product, Design and general-and-administrative functions. Dropbox expects $27 million to $33 million in cash expenditures, mainly for severance, benefits and related costs. Most of the incremental expense and cash payments are expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the remainder extending into 2027. The filing also says fiscal-year bonus amounts will be paid on a pro-rata basis. Separately, chief technology officer Ali Dasdan will leave effective November 18. Dropbox said preliminary third-quarter revenue and non-GAAP operating margin should be in line with or above its earlier guidance, making this a prioritization decision rather than a publicly disclosed response to an immediate financial emergency.
